How Much does a funeral cost?
The National Funeral Directors Association surveyed funeral costs across America in 2009 (the latest data posted by them). Because the costs generally go up annually, please use these figures simply as a point of reference. The itemized costs for the average funeral in the U.S. in 2009 was $6,560. That figure is up 6% over 2006.
Cemeteries also have a yearly fee for keeping the plot tidy or will charge a one-time fees called "perpetual care" which usually runs about $2,000 – depending on the cemetery. This fee covers trimming the hedges, landscaping, and general upkeep.
